FAREWELL FINE FRIENDS

I am saddened by the upcoming departure of three Stampin' Up! colors that I thought played so very well together: Not Quite Navy, Riding Hood Red, and More Mustard. Those who attend my monthly workshops especially know how much two of the colors, Not Quite Navy and More Mustard, mean to me. These two darlings played starring roles in many of my projects throughout the years.

To bid these colors a fond farewell, I decided to create a special card and dedicate it to my very dear and faithful friends I added a touch of <my least favorite> River Rock to tone down the seriousness of the tricolor combo. To add just a touch of whimsy.

I wanted the background to be just as lush and important as the central medallion, so I added some deep embossing to the square More Mustard card front. I also thought the main focus could become even more "main" by adding an appropriately pierced Framelit from the Window Framelits Collection in Not Quite Navy.

The central flower is made up of layers of just one stamp, Quint-Essential Flower:

Here is a closeup of the popped and stacked Quint-Essential Flower:

A brad in More Mustard sets off the center beautifully.

Isn't Stampin' Up! smart to make many of our punches and stamps work so well with each other? I love it.

Fond
Farewell
Smiles.

  4. Hi Linda, I just found you through the "Look What I Made" linky party. It is my first time there. there are SOOO MANY links to look at but your thumbnail really caught my eye. AWESOME colors but even more I love the combo of shapes you used and the embossing....well the whole thing. I am a CTMH rep and just signed up for our convention which has a VIVA! theme. the shapes you created here look very close to the shapes in the advertisement....I am thinking this might be my inspiration for my swap cards :-) can't wait to see more of your work

    1. Thanks, Carolyn! Have lots of fun at your Convention! I have been a SU demo for almost eight years, and have never been to our Convention. Makes me sad. But, then I wonder if I have the energy and verve it would require to make it worthwhile. :>)

  8. Linda that card is wonderful! It's too bad newer colors take over some of our faves, but that's how SU has always been. I have colors in bulk of those that I couldn't live without!! The 'go to' colors seems to me to be the ones they don't love anymore!!
I have to say that the new colors are pretty, and that's always good. I wonder when the newest colors will come out? The little bitty ink pads in sets used to be such a clever way for me to play with the newest colors to see which I loved most. Wish SU would do those again in groups. I'd love to have the newer sets that way.
I always love your pretty cards. Is deep embossing done on spritzed paper instead of dry? I love that crisp texture!
Thanks so much for joining the party Linda!
    Blessings,
    Doni

    1. It's not that Stampin' Up! stops loving retiring colors. It's based on a few things: mostly sales and color trends. They don't carry the Stampin' Spots anymore. I know that was a cost-effective way to get lots of colors, but, if you buy a whole family of regular size pads, they only cost $49.95, which makes them a really good buy at less than $5.00 each! The deep embossing is NOT done of spritzed paper. By using the SU embossing folders and the Big Shot, deep dry embossing is a cinch! Thanks for your great comments, Doni! :>)
