MISHMASH

Mishmash. Don't you just love that word? I adore words that are a little bit different, but, oh, so expressive. Like mishmash.

This card is truly a mishmash. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of mishmash is "hodgepodge (another great word!), jumble". A perfect description of the components I used in the card.

You see, I used bits and bobs (another!) from three (four?) different past Paper Pumpkin kits, a new stamp set, some ink I had, as well as a little Whisper White and Pumpkin Pie cardstock.

How'd you like that for a mishmash? It just proves my constant point: DON'T EVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY! Especially if it's Stampin' Up! product. Somehow you can make it all work.

Yesterday afternoon I had completed what I'd gone down to my Creation Station to accomplish. Not wanting to go back upstairs yet, I grabbed boxes containing some components of Paper Pumpkin kits that I hadn't quite finished with. I was going to work on these few kits, completing a couple cards, but my weird brain jumped into gear instead and I discarded that original idea.

Grabbing the Old Olive/Whisper White piece from one kit, I had planned to add the rusty side of the treat holders that came in the September kit (I'd cut off the scalloped ends of one of the treat holders). When I held the rusty side against the green, I went "yuk". As I laid it back down, it flipped over to the Pumpkin Pie side, and I loved the way that looked with the green/white. So I adhered the two scalloped strips to either side of the green/white piece, cutting off the excess length.

Planning to add it to the raised dot kraft cardstock that came in a kit, it was just a tad too small in and of itself. Adding a slightly larger piece of Pumpkin Pie cardstock to the original piece made it the perfect size.

I wasn't sure what to add to it. But almost immediately I thought of one of the new stamp sets, Jar of Flowers (page 12, Annual Catalog), which contains four lovely bouquets.

I'd been doing so much with sunflowers lately, and, since that the was the obvious seasonal choice for my card, because of the excess, I decided to go with a different bouquet. I'm sure the flowers in the bouquet I chose were not meant to be autumn blooms, but, with my Stampin' Blends, I did a little magic and turned them into a bouquet of fallish flowers.

The mason jar from the kit would have made my bouquet a bit tall for my card, so instead I opted to stamp the shorter flower holder onto Pumpkin Pie cardstock instead.

The Stampin' Blends I used to color my bouquet include: Light Cinnamon Cider, Dark So Saffron, Light and Dark Pumpkin Pie, Dark Cajun Craze, Light Old Olive, Dark Petal Pink and Dark Crumb Cake.

I have to admit that fussy cutting the flower bouquet was something of a challenge (even for me!) in that it was definitely fussy at some of the edges, and stamped on Whisper White made it a little thick to get a lot of detail in the cutting.

The sentiment itself came from another Paper Pumpkin kit and is done in Old Olive ink onto one of the Paper Pumpkin labels.

I used Stampin' Dimensionals on both the bouquet and the sentiment to give them their proper prominence.

There is really a lot going on in this mishmash card, don't you agree? Do you find that it works though?

Smiles.
